Diploma in Translation
The Diploma in Translation focuses on enhancing students’ translation skills by guiding them toward making sound judgments in sentence structure and vocabulary choices in both English and Arabic. It also offers the translators the chance to receive feedback on their work and have a constant follow-up that would ensure they hone the skills required to become professional translators. The diploma also introduces students to the essentials of freelance work and CAT tools.
Upon completion of this Course, trainees will be able to:
• Identify mistakes and overcome weaknesses in their translation skills
• Have a clear idea of key concepts in freelancing and the professional world of translation
• Translate a project on Trados and SmartCat
• Understand different translation types and the way to choose speciality and scope of work
• Write a professional translator’s CV
• Learn the factors of good subtitling practices
• Learn the importance of subtitling programs
• Start and complete a subtitling project on their own
• Use and achieve maximum benefit from the subtitling software focused on in the course
• Students of Translation and/or English Literature
• Students of all university fields (who desire to start a career in translation), provided they have strong linguistic abilities in English and Arabic
• Established translators who are looking to develop their translation skills and use CAT tools not only for future work but also using their old translations to build translation memories
• Translators who would like to learn more about key subtitling programs and how to use them to save time and effort
You must meet the following requirements to obtain a certification of Completion in Diploma in Translation:
1) Complete the diploma with an attendance of no less than 80%
2) Pass the final exam
